In 2020, I started a production line of illustrated earthenware pottery. I begin by wheel throwing or hand building using red earthenware. By dipping, pouring, or brushing, I apply a white slip to the surface. To draw on the pieces, I carve back through this layer of slip. This technique, called sgraffito, creates a crisp line with a tactile quality. I paint in the color using underglazes which I thin and mix like watercolors. Each piece is then bisque fired, glazed, and fired again to be food safe, functional, and ready to be enjoyed. This page is a selection of some of these works organized by year, starting in 2024 and dating back to 2021.
